About the Pastor:
Kathleen (also known as Hooly) has been married to her husband Don Gilhooly (sometimes known as Lambie or Gil) for thirty-eight years. They have three grown children, Michael, Lisa (married to Rob Nordvall and they have three sons; Jacob, Jackson and Levi) and Shaun (who is married to Lindsay), and much to their surprise, are enjoying the empty nest! Kathleen has a background in social work and counselling and in 2008 she completed a Masters degree in Theology from Christian Life School of Theology.
History of Cornerstone Christian Assembly:
Cornerstone Christian Assembly held their first
service in Beddington Community Centre on
Mothers Day 1994. Wade Brewer founded
Cornerstone after serving as an Associate Pastor
at Falconridge Full Gospel Church. He left
Cornerstone in January 2002 and Kathleen
Gilhooly left her position as Youth Pastor to become the Senior Pastor.
Cornerstone has called several places home. Originally meeting at Beddington Community Centre (with office and meeting space at Rundle College) we moved to Rocky Mountain College for several years and in 2002 moved to a building in Inglewood where we were able to support an organization that helps young girls leave the street life. We had many happy years there, but in 2008 we felt the Lord calling us to move to N.E. Calgary, where, since January 2000, we have run BackDoor Youth Church, an outreach program for disadvantaged youth.
On Christmas Eve 2008 our first service was held in Rundle where we have become co-labourers for Christ with King of Glory Lutheran Church. We are working together with King of Glory to reach out to those in N.E. Calgary who don't have a personal realtionship with Jesus Christ. Two Churches with different doctrine, setting aside their differences and coming together to worship one Lord, Jesus Christ.
Church Life
We celebrate together on Sunday mornings with Bible study at 9:30 and Worship Service beginning at 10:30. On Monday nights our young Adults get together for various activities, fellowship and fun. The last Tuesday of every month is Girlfriends unlimited. We have a light supper, a time of Worship, Bible study and small group discussion. On Wednesday night there is a multi-Church Home prayer and praise meeting, and on the third Wednesday of each month it "Mensday" night Men’s Group, a time for our Men to get together, study the word of God and pray. On Thursday nights it's Home Bible study fellowship and Backdoor Youth Church meets for homework hour, supper, Bible study, and prayer after School from 3:30 to 8:30.
We celebrate religious holidays together and also some non-religious holidays too like Remembrance day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, and Valentines Day (Dinner and a Movie too!) We meet on Good Friday and share communion and rejoice together on Easter morning. In May, our youth attend YC, a youth conference in Edmonton and in July we go away together for a weekend Church camp. August is always a special time of year for us when we run our Vacation Bible School. In October we host a Pumpkin Bash for the community and a fall supper & Fundraiser to send people to Mexico to build houses. Once a year our Men go away to "Man Camp" and in November our ladies have a weekend retreat to refresh themselves, and renew their relationship with one another. At Christmas time we go caroling around our neighborhood to share the Gospel on song.
We are real people with real problems and struggles in life. We share the ups and the downs of our personal journey openly with one another, and know that the answer to all of our difficulties is Jesus. Cornerstone/King of Glory is a church where anyone is welcome!
